Looking for a lithium aircraft battery replacement for your certified aircraft? EarthX Batteries makes FAA TSO-approved lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries for general aviation aircraft and has more than 400 FAA STC applications/approvals supporting installation of EarthX certified aircraft batteries.

EarthX offers two primary FAA TSO-approved batteries for certified aircraft:

ETX900-TSO — FAA TSO-approved 12V lithium aircraft battery
ETX680-24-TSO — FAA TSO-approved 24V lithium aircraft battery

Both batteries are designed as lightweight, high-performance replacements for traditional lead-acid aircraft batteries. An STC is required for installation in a certified aircraft, and EarthX provides the applicable STC documentation and Approved Model List (AML) for eligible aircraft.

What Is an STC for an Aircraft Battery?

STC stands for Supplemental Type Certificate. An STC is FAA-approved data that authorizes a modification to a type-certificated aircraft.

When replacing an original lead-acid aircraft battery with an FAA TSO-approved EarthX lithium battery, the applicable STC provides the approved installation data for the aircraft models covered by the STC.

The important distinction is:

The FAA TSO approves the battery. The STC approves the installation of that battery in a specific aircraft or group of aircraft.

Do I Need an STC to Install an EarthX Lithium Battery?

Yes. For installation in a type-certificated aircraft, an applicable STC is required for the EarthX FAA TSO-approved battery installation. EarthX provides the STC documentation free to download from its website.

The STC documentation can include the:

EarthX also offers aircraft-specific installation kits required by the applicable STC. Installation kits are sold separately and are selected based on the aircraft application.

How Do I Get the STC for My Aircraft?

Getting the EarthX STC is simple:

1. Find your aircraft on the EarthX STC list.
Search by aircraft manufacturer, model, and electrical system.

2. Determine which EarthX TSO battery applies.
The aircraft’s electrical system determines whether the 12V-class ETX900-TSO or 24V-class ETX680-24-TSO installation applies.

3. Download the STC paperwork.
EarthX provides the applicable STC and supporting documentation online at no charge.

4. Select the required installation kit.
EarthX installation kits are aircraft-specific and provide the hardware needed for the approved installation.

5. Install the battery according to the approved documentation.

Is the EarthX STC Free?

Yes. EarthX provides the applicable STC paperwork as a free download from the EarthX website. You do not have to purchase the STC document separately. The aircraft-specific installation kit and battery are purchased separately.

EarthX is continually adding aircraft to its STC program.

If your aircraft is not currently listed, contact EarthX and provide the aircraft make, model, and whether it is a 12V or 24V electrical system. EarthX maintains a list of aircraft being considered or actively pursued for future STC approval.
