Need just an empty shell while you are planning and building? Here is the easy solution for you. The “E”case dimensions are 6.5″ L x 3.1″ W x 6.6” H (166 x 79 x 168mm). The battery models that come in the “E” case are: ETX36E, ETX900, ETX900-VNT, ETX1200.
The multi-use aluminum battery box is excellent to use with the EarthX lithium batteries for easy installation!
This battery box can be used interchangeably for the EarthX Lithium Battery models ETX680/900/900-vnt/1200 or the Odyssey PC680 with the use of a foam spacers. We call it the multi-use battery box for this reason.
If you are using the battery box for the EarthX Lithium batteries, you will use a foam spacer on the left and right side of the battery for a snug fit. If you are using the battery box for the PC680, you will use the foam spacer on the backside at the bottom of the case to adjust for the tapering of the case for a snug fit. That easy!
This battery box was engineered to be strong enough to withstand 30 G of force for the EarthX Lithium Batteries or 15 G of force for the PC680 yet only weighs 8.6 ounces or 244 grams. This unique design allows for simple, easy installation with the dimensions: 7.1″ L x 3.1″ W x 6.5-6.6″ (adjustable)H or (180mm x 80mm 166-168mm) and the mounting holes are identical to the existing 4 sided Van’s battery box for the PC680 so no new drilling of holes needed. The holes DO NOT match up if you have the Atlee Dodge battery box. Model number BB-MU.

Thermal battery box to protect from heat!
The EarthX thermal battery box is designed to protect the battery in engine compartment installations from periods of high temperature (up to 1 hour), such as after shutdown, and from radiant heat from hot surfaces like exhaust systems during and after flight. This stainless-steel box has a mirror finish to minimize the effect of radiant heat, and it has a high-performance insulating foam layer between the box and battery to reduce effect of convection heat. The hold-down tab comes with a mounting fixture that can hold a cooling air duct up to 1” in diameter. This battery box was engineered to be strong enough to withstand 30 G of force yet only weighs 1 pound. It has the same mounting holes as the custom battery box or the multi-use battery box.
All batteries have optimal temperature ranges for use in operation. The ETX hundred series is rated for 140 deg F ( 60 deg C) or less for optimal longevity and performance of the battery. Typical lead acid batteries are rated to 113 deg F or 45 deg C.
This battery box is designed to be compatible with our existing “E” case battery models; ETX680/900/1200.
The “Radiant and Convection” graph shows the internal cell temperature with an extreme test example. The battery was placed in a test environment chamber with temperatures of 185 Deg F (85 deg C) and simulated 1000 Deg F (538 deg C) exhaust pipe 6 inches from the front of the battery. In this case there was a 3.5X improvement in the time to heat up the battery cells to the high operating limit. In less extreme temperatures, the improvement can be 4X.
The “Convection” graph shows the battery (not cell) temperature rise with a test environment of 185 Deg F (85 deg C). In this case there was a 5.3X improvement in the time to heat up the battery.
This kit includes all you will need to make the installation of an ETX900-VNT easy and professional looking. The kit includes:
- Wye fitting to connect to the ETX900-VNT’s two ¼” tubes to a single 3/8” tube
- 6 feet of 3/8” tubing that can be cut to a custom length
- An aluminum exhaust port with 3/8” tube fitting. The exhaust port mounts to fuselage through a 9/16″ diameter hole and is secured with pal nut and lock washer.

Recently purchased and installed an ETX680C for my experimental plane. The 680C replaced a Ballistics Performance EVO2 battery. Your battery is FANTASTIC. There is an amazing difference in cranking performance–I can almost taxi my aircraft when just running the starter!

Purchased the ETX900 for my 3300 Jabaru aircraft engine in my Zenith CH750. The new battery spins the engine significantly faster, allowing for starting the engine without preheating every time (anytime it was below 60 degrees F) What a difference it made and saved me just over 10 pounds. I purchased an ETX900 for an experimental aircraft. For 3 days I cranked on the motor and finally figured out I had a broken wire which stopped the engine from starting.
